Valor Fitness BD-7 Power Rack w/ LAT Pull Attachment The Valor Fitness BD-7 Power Rack w/ LAT Pull Attachment is a versatile rack that is an ideal addition to any home, garage, or light-commercial gym. With a 2” x 2” 12-gauge steel frame, this heavy-duty unit has rubber base caps on each foot for safety, stability, and floor protection. Steel diminishes as the gauge increaes, so a 12-gauge steel rack is stronger and more durable than any 13 or 14-gauge steel rack you may find. The BD-7 Power Rack includes a straight pull-up bar with a knurled grip at the top to build strength in your upper body. This power rack is a must have weightlifting gift to give as the perfect addition to a new home gym. A key component of this unit is the Lat Pull Down station included at the rear of the unit. With this feature of the BD-7, users can use the 38” lat pull bar at the top to perform lat pull down exercises as well as the 20” accessory pull down bar at the bottom to perform cable curls and cable rows. This feature will add more versatility to your workout regimen with a cable that travels 60”. The lap bar is included to secure the user in place (if they slide a bench in the frame) while performing lat pull down exercises. The 4 adjustable bar catchers are there for you to rack and unrack your bar, making this unit a great station to perform squats and even bench presses. The solid steel chrome safety bars on each side are there in the event the lift cannot be completed. With 27 variable positions for bar support, ranging in height from 17.5” to 68”, users can easily adjust the bar catchers or safety bars to the perfect height for them. The vibrant numbering system helps you easily identify each position and adjust the bar catchers and safety bars where you need. The BD-7 also has the added benefit of 4 storage pegs at the rear of the unit, so users can easily store weight plates and keep them from laying around the floor. Provided a clean and organized gym setting, each storage peg measures 8” in length with a 1” diameter to accommodate both 1” standard plates and 2” Olympic plates – for a more snug and secure fit for the 2” Olympic plates, users can add an EX-10 Olympic Adapter Sleeve that converts 1” standard storage pegs to 2” Olympic storage pegs (sold separately). The EX-10 can also be used for the carriage on the Lat Pull Down Station. Get him the best gift that will start off his new year right. My wife and I purchased the Valor BD-7 because we wanted to do a 3x5 or 5x5 program to lose weight and build muscle. You can't do those programs safely without a power rack or squat rack. I spent over a month debating whether I should get this rack or the I'm using this at home. It was a lot of work putting it all together and you will definitely want to have a metric (millimeter) socket set to get this job done as standard inch based SAE sockets will not fit the bolt heads. SAE will fit the compression nuts o.k. but not the bolts. If you have an SAE wrench on the nuts and a metric wrench on the bolt head you are golden (or even better a metric socket on an impact driver). I greased the cable systems with all silicon grease to prevent the plastic parts from cracking (caused by petroleum based oils and grease). You can also use mineral oil instead of silicon oil/grease. This made the cable action very smooth. It feels a little bumpier than the smooth action of the commercial machines at the gym, but the workout is every bit the same. You're not fighting the cable at all. The lat pull-down cable is especially smooth and the cross bar for your legs is a huge plus and most home machines don't have that. The steel gauge is strong enough for heavy lifting, but I've seen guys at the gym that are lifting 400/500 lbs and they would wear this cage out in weeks so it's not for them. This is great for young athletes and fitness buffs, even bodybuilding teens, but adult sized power-lifters will need to look for something more commercial grade with a thicker gauge steel. For the rest of us, it's a great value. The rig is very stable (it's going to shift a little when using the cable-crossovers but you don't feel it). You can't beat this for the money, I just hope replacement parts will be available in the future specifically for the pulley systems as the pulleys themselves are plastic (whiles the housings are steel) and well plastic doesn't last forever. All the more reason to be sure to use either mineral oil or pure silicon grease and not WD-40 or other lubricants that use petroleum products which can make plastic brittle and crack. If you have olympic plates, you will need adapter sleeves and right now they are just not available at a decent price due to the virus-effect on the home gym market. Instructions for the cable-crossover extensions are little lacking and difficult to read and they're by far the most complicated pieces to put together but I managed fine. It's not rocket science. Overall, very pleased with my purchase.
